At The Historic Dockyard Chatham we recognise that you often have itineraries which visit a number of locations in the same day therefore time is at a premium. We have developed short stay options for visits to specific attractions rather than the whole site. Refreshments and meals can be added or deleted to suit requirements. Royal Dockyard Tour

Our knowledgeable guide will take your group around the dockyard either on foot or boarding your own coach, allowing you to discover its maritime history through the buildings, architecture, ships and people This tour includes Tea/Coffee and Danish pastries on arrival, and the duration is 3 hours.

‘Dickens’ Dockyard’

In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Charles Dickens’ birth. Your costumed guide will take you on a walk to discover the Dockyard as seen through Dickens’s eyes, setting the scene of why he was so familiar with the Dockyard with descriptions based on extracts from his book ‘The Uncommercial Traveller’. This tour includes Tea/Coffee and Danish pastries on arrival, and the duration is 3 hours.

Commissioner’s House

Take your group back to the early 1900’s as a member of the household shows you around Commissioner’s House, Britain’s oldest naval building. A truly unique opportunity which is subject to availability. This tour will include afternoon tea in the house and the total duration of this visit is 2 hours.

HMS Cavalier

Board our Second World War Destroyer HMS Cavalier with one of our knowledgeable guides and explore areas of the ship in detail. Add this tour to the ‘Fish and Ships’ meal option for a visit with a difference.
This tour will include lunch onboard the ship after guided tour and your group will also get access to the other Historic Warships, the duration of the visit will be 2 - 3 hours.

Evening Tours

Take a bespoke tour of your chosen galleries at night, combined with a two course meal. This experience, something really special and unique for groups, is becoming very popular. The duration will be up to 3 hours.

Railway Tour

Available in April & May 2012 only. Led by one of our very own steam enthusiasts, this tour takes you to the rail art exhibition and railway workshop. If your group are fanatical about Steam Trains this tour will be on the right tracks! This tour includes warm refreshments and Danish pastries on arrival, and the duration is 3 hours.

Hidden Ropery

Go behind the scenes of the Ropery, walking in the footsteps of the master rope makers, and gain a totally different perspective on the traditional rope making process. The quarter of a mile long ropewalk never ceases to amaze. Weekends only. This tour includes warm refreshments and Danish pastries on arrival, and the duration is 3 hours.

Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle

Combine your entry to The Historic Dockyard with a cruise on the river Medway aboard Britain’s last coal-fired paddle steamer. Choose between a half hour cruise at lunchtime or an hour and a half mid afternoon. Easter – October.

Ghost Walks

As darkness draws in, The Historic Dockyard takes on an eerie atmosphere providing the perfect backdrop for stories of history, intrigue, murder and mystery mixed with a little adventure and romance. Join us on one of our regular ghost walks or arrange an evening with a meal specifically for your group.
