'Hoots', Hounds and Horses this weekend at Medway Festival of Steam & Transport!

Families visiting the Medway Festival of Steam & Transport| at The Historic Dockyard Chatham this weekend are in for a treat! Not only is this year’s event crammed with family activities, both undercover and outside, but children under 5 go free!

Thanks to Many Hoots Centre for Disabled Birds of Prey, they can meet Lurch the Vulture and his many feathered friends – eagles, owls, other vultures and many more and have their picture taken with them! Drayhorse Shires make a welcome return with wagon rides being a must for every family! They can experience a tour of the dockyard in style and have pictures taken with these amazing horses (small additional charge applies).

The Mid Essex Newfoundland's Group will also be making a welcome return to the event. These big furry dogs and puppies will be seen pulling their beautifully decorated carts around The Historic Dockyard. Children will have the chance to ask questions and have a “Newfie” cuddle and more often than not the experience of feeling just how sticky their slobber really is! A picture with these beautiful dogs will be a wonderful memento for the family album.

Families with smaller children won’t want to miss the chance to see Fireman Sam and Naughty Norman on Monday 5th April. They’ll be making ‘meet and greet’ appearances and starring in the Fireman Sam Show at various intervals throughout the day.

Other family entertainment includes a ModelZONE - with model ships, trains and planes - and Victorian themed twins Felix and Felix will keep the crowds entertained with their Penny-Farthing stunt-riding, robotic body popping and close-up magic. This should be enough to keep children of all ages amused for hours whilst enjoying a great Easter day out.

With over 600 vehicles booked on each of the two days there’ll also be plenty to keep parents happy too at this premier transport event. Kit cars, classic, pre and post war cars, military vehicles, agricultural, commercial and emergency service vehicles, buses, motorcycles, steam traction engines and the Dockyard’s very own steam and diesel locomotives.

Wheelwrights’ Restaurant will be offering traditional fare including homemade cakes and treats as well as the special dockyard fish ’n’ chips. Picnic areas and mobile catering units are also available.
