H.R.H. Prince George, Duke of Kent visiting the Medway Towns, early 1930s

Amongst the many members of the Royal Family to visit the Medway Towns during the past century was H.R.H. Prince George, the Duke of Kent.  He visited in the early 1930s.  The above image shows him inspecting sailors during a visit to the Medway Towns. The Duke had served in the Royal Navy between 1917 - 1929. This visit was most probably to a Pageant held in Rochester in 1931. The Duke also visited the Towns in July 1933 to open the training ship Arethusa moored at Upnor.
