Planes, Trains and Automobiles!
”ModelZone – Trains, Planes and Automobiles” will make its debut this year, situated on the mezzanine floor in the stunning No. 3 covered slip. As the name suggests, this is an area dedicated to model trains, planes and cars featuring “The Chatham and District Model Railway Club” displaying their model railway and trains together with opportunities for visitors to ‘have a go’ themselves! There will be a static model plane display by “The North Downs Model Flying Club”, including Second World War scale models, large aerobatic models, smaller electric models and a gas turbine jet. Visitors who have ever wanted to fly a model plane can have a go on their lap top flight simulator. “Maritime Racing” will feature remote control cars, a race track, racing displays and static model artic. lorries.
Cars of the 1980s!
Also new for this year, in recognition of the 25th Anniversary of Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust, there will be a special area dedicated to vehicles of the 1980s with a prize going to the best dressed owner in 1980s attire! Exhibits in this area include exact replicas of both THE Van and the Corvette from the TV show “The A Team” (Sunday only), the famous car from “Starsky and Hutch” (Sunday only) and an exact “Herbie” replica dating back to 1966! A few of the more “normal” cars include Ford Escorts, a Citroen Dolly, Ford Capris, Austin Metros as well as sporty Jaguars and Porsches.
Hundreds of Steam Exhibits!
Some of the Favourites Return!
Some of the favourites making a welcome return this year include vintage cars and classic motorbikes, commercial and military vehicles, steam traction engines and locomotives to name just a few. Also returning will be the Happy Feet Jazz Band with their New Orleans style Jazz Music played ‘on the hoof’ around the Dockyard and the Newfoundland Dogs Team parading around the site with their little carts.
