Medway Festival of Steam & Transport - 10th Anniversary
Medway Festival of Steam & Transport will be back on the 8th & 9th April 2012
This year’s Medway Festival of Steam & Transport not only has a special Railway theme, but will be bigger and better than ever for its 10th Anniversary year. Joining the varied assortment of specialist vehicles that visitors have come to know and love over the past ten years, will be a new Steampunk village, a folk and blues music stage and an Airfix Make and Take activity.
Taking place at The Historic Dockyard Chatham on Easter Sunday and Monday, 8
th & 9
th April, the event will see not only the dockyard’s own locomotive ‘Ajax’, together with the 1895 Aveling & Porter ‘Sydenham’ and 1936 Peckett in steam, but also the guest engine ‘Victory’, an ex-dockyard locomotive retuning to Chatham on one of its first outings following extensive restoration. The event provides a unique opportunity to see these two ex-dockyard locomotives in steam alongside each other again in Chatham, their original working location.
'Rail Art' a temporary exhibition by the Guild of Railway Artists is open for the event too. Open from 31st March to 11th May in No.1 Smithery: The Gallery this prestigious display of art by this talented crop of individuals will add another dimension to the railway theme of the Medway Festival of Steam and Transport.
