Royal National Lifeboat Institution
The lifeboats have been restored and are maintained by a dedicated team of RNLI volunteers, whose invaluable help is very much appreciated.
The Modern Lifeboat Service
- The RNLI has provided the lifeboat service for the UK and Republic of Ireland since 1824
- There are more than 330 active lifeboats at over 230 lifeboat stations
- 2006 saw 8,377 lifeboat launches and made 8,015 rescues
- Modern Lifeboats range from 4.9m high-speed inflatable inshore lifeboats to 17m all-weather lifeboats and they are manned by highly trained, largely volunteer crews
- Every penny required to maintain the lifeboat service is raised from voluntary contributions
- The RNLI is a charity which depends entirely on voluntary contributions and legacies
