River Cruises on the Medway
Take a trip back in time aboard Britain’s last coal-fired paddle steamer.
Built in 1924 for service on the River Dart, the Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle operates from Thunderbolt Pier at The Historic Dockyard and offers a relaxing interlude for visitors.
From the River Medway you’ll see the riverfronts of famous building slips, the ramparts of Queen Elizabeth’s castle at Upnor, the river steps where Nelson joined the Royal Navy, and the scene of the infamous Dutch victory in the ‘Battle of Chatham’ – known to the English as the Dutch Raid!
Choose from a ½ hour or 1½ hour cruise, between May and the end of September. Groups will normally join ‘public’ sailings.
